When we shared our LED light therapy devices with the world, it was because we were tired of skin care products’ sweet nothings. Especially when it came to anti-aging regimens. No matter how closely we stuck to the protocol, little to no improvement was made in the wrinkle reduction department.
You’d think we swore off all anti-aging creams and lotions at this point, but a mushroom (yes, a mushroom) made us stop and say, “come again?”
Over 2,000 years ago, the Reishi mushroom claimed its popularity in traditional Chinese medicine as it provided solutions for cardiac strength, better memory, enhancing energy levels, and anti-aging effects. Reishi mushroom extract is also believed to help clam redness in sensitive skin.
This medicinal macrofungus contains about 400 different bioactive compounds all of which make up the beauty of Reishi’s magical powers to make your skin look youthful. Reishi is made up of polysaccharides, the molecule responsible for the skin’s ability to hydrate and retain water. Aka youthful, plump-looking skin.
Dr. Andrew Weil, a celebrity doctor, incorporates Reishi mushroom extract into skin care products. “…Reishi mushrooms maximize the skin’s defenses against aging,” Dr. Weil noted in his blog.
How does it work?
When applied topically, Reishi mushroom may have the ability to penetrate deep into the layers of the skin, providing nourishment and healing. Because it is thought to reach deeper layers of the skin, Reishi may be hydrating your skin all while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Stated in this study, “Free radicals [are] believed to be a major contributory factor to aging.” The findings concluded Reishi mushroom extract is proven to protect against aging.
Can you use Reishi with light therapy?
Before adding new skin care products to your routine, we recommend speaking with your dermatologist. We have not recorded any mushroom interaction with light therapy. We feel it is best to use Reishi mushroom extract after light therapy uses until further documentation is noted.
This powerful fungus may shake up your anti-aging efforts for the better. Are you ready to give Reishi mushroom extract a try? Let us know in the comments what you think about adding mushrooms to your skin care routine.
